Brazilian Day and Fiestas in Madrid

Live Brazilian magic in Madrid. A festival where you can enjoy the music, dancing and joy of Rio without leaving the country of  Spain,nor the city of Madrid. Renowned artists will parade across the stage, led by the group Cheiro de Amor, whose spectacular singer Alinn Rosa, Madrid will bring the rhythms of  the most famous carnival in the world.

Almir Serra will also be there : son of the famous samba artist Guinet Almir, his work has been recognized by the most important Brazilian artists and has recorded one of his CDs with the famous singer’s participation Beth Carvalho, Luiz Dos Ode: Composer and owner of a expressive voice, Luiz fuses folk rhythms of Brazil and the world, with new concepts of sound, resulting in a unique and innovative style. Dont miss a free concert by ERYKATRINA & TEMPLADOS.The group is made up of  the artists Erika & Javier who apply an original style and panorama to interprete blues, American rock  and Italian songs with a touch of vintage.How did it all start? … Erika left her homeland Italy in 2006  and her rock band “Fedora dix” to move to Madrid in search of new inspiration.On the other hand Javier was (and is) the guitarist of ” Novo Nancho y los Castigados sin postre¨, known as “El Chino”.

Erika came from the island Sardegna, with a lot of energy and zest and that is why  friends gave her the  nickname “Katrina”  after the hurricane, from there the group name and Erykatrina y Templados. READ MORE »

Ángel Orensanz´s Sculpture Exposition

Orensanz (Laura, Huesca, 1951) is one of the greatest Spanish artists with international reputation. Recognized by critics and audiences as one of the most important sculptors of the past quarter century, in 2001, the Biennale of Contemporary Art in Florence gave a tribute to all his work, a year later he received the Gold Medal of the Academy of Fine Arts . Since the 60′s he has spread his work to various places around the world, developing a language of fusion between art and life. In the mid 80′s he settled in New York and created the foundation that bears his name in an ancient synagogue on the Lower East Side. READ MORE »

Madrid Fashion Show Designer Exposition

For the occasion of the celebration of the Madrid Fashion Show at the premises of the Costume Museum (Museo del Traje): CIPE, two of the most promising companies in the current scene, and The 2nd Skin Co and Alvarno , offered to the public the chance to see some of his recent creations. Joining them is the jewellery of Carerra y Carrera, which will emphasize the glamour of this small exhibition. Alvarno consists of Maillard and Alvaro Castejon, a Spaniard in Paris and a Frenchman in Madrid, as they like to be called. Toughened in London, Paris and New York,  with Karl Lagerfeld, Alexander McQueen or Oscar de la Renta, they have decided to turn Madrid into the capital of their style: pure, bright and sophisticated. Free RollerBlade Master Class This Sunday

I was in  the Retiro Park yesterday with my suegro (Spanish for father -in-law) and the weather is fabulous to be outdoors.There was the usual activity in the park including artists, families with strollers or prams (as we call them in South Africa), senior citizens doing  their exercises at the designated areas, lovebirds and office workers catching up on their book reading or just enjoying a siesta on the grass.The other wonderful part about the park is the fact that its a rendezvous for activities and hobbies like Capoeira, riding the  bicycle (though there is a park which loans bicycles for FREE in Madrid), and rollerblading.
