Every year, Madrid gets dressed for Christmas in the form of thousands and thousands of twinkling lights all down the main streets of the city. On days like Christmas Eve, New Year’s Eve, and the 5th of January (Three Kings Day), the lights will be on well into the night, and on other days between now and then, the lights are on from 18h to 23h in the evenings. There are also decorated, lit trees in various locations, with the largest being in the middle of Puerta del Sol. Taking a walk down Gran Via or down any of its side streets reveal the many designs: exploding stars of light, floating present boxes, even lit skylines. To take advantage of the lights, read up on them here and to see the lights from a double-decker Navibus, read this previous post on Cheap in Madrid! (Note: this year’s bus costs 1.50 euros, and still picks up right near metro Serrano, on the corner of Jorge Juan and Serrano).
