Festival of Sacred Arts: Free Vocal Ensemble Concerts

To end the month, the Festival of Sacred Art in Madrid present two concerts. Tonight, under the artistic direction of Laurence Brisset, Ensemble De Caelis will interpret a medieval repertoire a cappella. Their presentation will be at the Royal Parish Church of San Ginés @ 8pm on c / Arenal, 13. Metro: Sol.

Second performance by Amarcord, a German male classical vocal ensemble based in Leipzig, Germany. Founded in 1992 by five former members of the St. Thomas Choir, their focus is Medieval music, Renaissance music and the collaboration with contemporary composers. Numerous tours brought the quintet to give concerts in over fifty countries.

They will be performing tomorrow Wednesday, February 29th @ 8:45pm in the Santa Teresa & Santa Isabel Church on C/ Eloy Gonzalo, 35. Metro: Iglesia.

Free Concert Tonight: Modus Novus

This Madrid Orchestral Group, directed by Santiago Serrate, will be playing special pieces by composers Jacobo Durán-Loriga, Benet Casablancas & Hans Werner Henze. They will be performing tonight Monday, February 26th @ 7:30pm in the Nouvel Building of the Reina Sofía Museum, directly behind the cafeteria. Early arrival is recommended before doors open @ approx. 7:00pm.

Illustrations Expo: Stories in the Story

The Instituto Cultural Rumano and Clubul Ilustratorilor are collaborating various institutions and governmental departments   in Madrid to bring us this exposition of illustration of tales called Historias en la Historia (Stories in the story). If you are working towards your MFA degree, this would be a great exhibit for you to attend! The themes in these illustrations cover issues of beliefs, thoughts and glories that define a society. Each illustration transmits 2 stories, one of the story being related, and the other of the interpretation of the illustrator.

Expat Interview:Daniel Arenas

This month, CiM Blog interviews an expat who hails all the way from Canada and who also has Spanish roots about half an hour´s drive from Madrid. His name is Daniel Arenas(DA) and he is also a local Ambassador for Madrid´s chapter of InterNations.

CiM:What brought you to Madrid?

DA:I came to Madrid in 2007 after the Montreal based advertising agency Pixman
Corporation decided to open a European office in Madrid.

CiM:Had you visited the city before?

DA:Yes, the first time I set foot in Madrid was in 1997 and then pretty much
every year after that. My father is from Olombrada, a small village
between Segovia and Valladolid, and 1997 was my first opportunity to come
