This week, “Attack the Block” premieres in English at Yelmo Cines Ideal (C/ Doctor Cortezo, 6, metro: Tirso de Molina, L 1) and at Renoir Plaza España (c/ Martín de los Heros, 12, metro: Plaza de España). From the producers of Shaun of the Dead, this film is about aliens invading an inner-city apartment complex. It’s not your typical sci-fi flick, as it also has satire and commentary on race and class. First-time director Joe Cornish also wrote the script.
If you’re in the mood for a comedy, the cartoon “Puss in Boots” is on in English at Yelmo Cines Ideal. Antonio Banderas and Salma Hayek voice the two main cat characters, in both the Spanish and the English version. The Don Juan cat from Shrek is back for an adventure all his own, and there’s even a scene where they dance flamenco. For an extra kick, the English version is playing in 3D, so get your 3D glasses out.
Keep in mind that if you want to see a movie in the cinema in English, you need to go to the showing that has V.O.S. written next to the title, which means its playing in its original language, with subtitles, rather than a dubbed movie.
