French Labour Activisism on Film

This film is about the men who organised one of the most emblematic workers´ strike after ´68 of the factory of LIP in Besançon. It was an incredible resistance and struggle which lasted many years while mobilising multitudes in France and the rest of Europe.This film is being screened today and was directed by Christian Rouaud.It lasts 118mn. Its in French with Spanish subtitles.The projection will be followed by a meeting and debate led by the director of the film Christian Rouaud.

Free Movies from 27 countries

UCG Cine Cité de Manoteras (Avenida de Manoteras, 40 Fuente de la Mora ML1) is organising the screening of movies from 27 European countries including France, Portugal, Poland, England, Chech Republic, Luxembueg, Malta, Netherlands, Cyprus, Slovenia, Slovakia, Lithuania, Italy, Letonia, Estonia, Ireland, Sweden, Austria, Finland, Bulgaria, Denmark and Spain.Check out the full programme here.Its taking place on the 9th of May and first come,first served!

Complete List of European Day Celebrations

The neighbourhood of Lavapiés (Metro Lavapiés) will host a series of parties, dance spectacles, stand-up comedy, hip hop, concerts, folk music and street shows in commemoration of ¨El Día de Europa¨. The participating countries are Holland, Austria, Rumania, Spain, France ,Chech Republic,  Hungary, Finland, Cyprus and Poland.The proceedings start at 16:00 on the 9th of May and admission is free.Have a look at the full programme here.

For the next fortnight,the French Institute in Madrid is offering free French comedies of the last couple of years.Here is the programme with a short synopsis for each film.

Gazon Maudit (11/01/2010)

 Comic film in French with Spanish subtitles about Laurent and Loli, a couple living comfortably in a small Southern city of France. Laurent is a local Real Estate agent,a job which gives him easy opportunity for his adventurous love affairs. His beautiful wife is a housewife taking care of their children and oblivious to all of this. One day their lives are thrown into turmoil following the breakdown of a caravan belonging to a lesbian stranger in front of their home. This film is directed by  Josiane Lunes and its cast is Victoria Abril,Ticky Holgado and Josiane Balasko. It is shown today 11/01/2010 at 20.00h and it lasts for 105mins. 

 Le Pére Nöel est une ordure (12/01/2010)

Closer to St. Valentine´s day this film seems appropriate. Lucas, a rich industrialist who has just ended a tumultuous love affair is charmed by a beautiful ceramist employed at his company to redecorate the entrance of the building. In order to win her affection, he employs the services of a detective; himself being rusty in the wooing department…The cast for this romantic comedy is Sandrine Bonnaire, François Berléand, Liane Foly, Kad Merad. Its shown on Monday 25th of January and it lasts for 90mins.
