The fiestas or festivities of San Lorenzo take place on the 10th of August.The festivities start with a procession from a church on calle del Doctor Piga. Then the procession continues on the streets of Argumosa, Doctor Fourquet, Valencia, Sombrerería, Plaza de Lavapiés and Fe, from whence they return to the temple of the saint.The activities of the festivities will take place in Plaza de Lavapiés and Calle Argumosa of Lavapíes. Learn Tango at the Madrid Festival for FREE

This cultural heritage of Argentina is taking Madrid by storm. People who attend this year’s festival will feed their eyes of dance exhibitions, milonga sessions as well as free dance lessons. The organisers of this festival have successfully created an Argentinian feel by also hosting an Argentinian market accessible to all members of the public. People can also taste some traditional gastronomy of the country at this event. The musical entertainment is brought by Lotox,Trío Mistongo jointly with Orquestra Malena and a dance couple will tango away to their music.  Admission is free and the location is the Plaza de Augustin Lara in Lavapiés.

Complete List of European Day Celebrations

The neighbourhood of Lavapiés (Metro Lavapiés) will host a series of parties, dance spectacles, stand-up comedy, hip hop, concerts, folk music and street shows in commemoration of ¨El Día de Europa¨. The participating countries are Holland, Austria, Rumania, Spain, France ,Chech Republic,  Hungary, Finland, Cyprus and Poland.The proceedings start at 16:00 on the 9th of May and admission is free.Have a look at the full programme here.

The ¨La Casa Encendida¨is celebrating what could have been the 100th birthday of the poet Luis Rosales.The exposition is the collaboration of  La Casa Encendida, Sociedad Española de Conmemoraciones Culturales, the Archivo Histórico Nacional and the Centro Andaluz de las Letras. He was a member of the Real Academia Española (RAE) from 1962 and was a recipient of the Premio Miguel de Cervantes 20 years later.The exposition will be commissioned by Xelo Candel and Paloma Esteban and will be composed of  letters, photographs and other documents, along with works of artists as Pablo Picasso, Joan Miró, Savior Dalí and Benjamín Palencia.   Continue reading
