Winebus winery guided tours from Madrid

Are you coming to Madrid for a few days? Then you should consider going on a Winebus trip. Today we are going to propose a fabulous getaway from Madrid for wine lovers or people who would like to get familiar with Spanish wines.

What is the Winebus?

Winebus is a Wine Tourism Agency located in Madrid, where the main activity is to have excursions and experiences around wines, blending activities with a touch of adventure where the 5 senses are awakened. The excursion is well-thought out and accommodates all ages (among those legally allowed to drink alcohol). Going on a Winebus excursion means, travelling from Madrid to nearby attractive wineries, not having to drive, tasting wonderful wines accompanied by local cuisines, with guided tours in English.

Our Winebus experience

The wineries are located in Spanish vine havens, in historical cellars where tradition meets the modern palate and the ambience of the visit and the group are unbeatable. Every weekend you can enjoy a visit to a winery and a town on the outskirts of Madrid, that will not disappoint.  Our Winebus excursion took us  to the Mocén winery  in Rueda and the city of Avila, where later in the evening, we  watched a magnificent light show of Santa Teresa. Rueda, like many other towns in Castilla and León, is a historical producer of wines since many centuries back. Townsfolk from the XVIth century used to dig and create incredible caves in order to keep the wine in good conditions throughout the year, at a constant temperature of 17 degrees. At this time, only a few surviving caves are left, one of them being the Bodegas Mocén or Mocén Wineries. Winebus usually proposes winery visits to coincide with local fiestas at the destination city or town, and in this way, further immerse ourselves in the local traditions and customs. In this trip, our guide took us through the thousand myths and legends behind the Mocén wineries. Part of the wine cellar has been refurbished, however, its historical charm for which it continues to attract well-known Spanish and international personalities still remains.

After a walking tour of the cellars of this winery, we visited a museum library with more than 22,000 copies. The library takes one back to a scene in the Harry Potter´s movie. There is also an art gallery that will impress even the toughest art critics. Following these stops at the caves,  library and art gallery the eagerly anticipated wine tasting started: We tasted the magnificent wines from the cellar. We tasted a Mocen 2014 white Verdejo and a Cobranza 2012 Red Tempranillo. The Verdejo wine is recognized as Verdejo Rueda and was awarded top honours in the Zarcillo prizes. After the tasting, we explored the city of Avila to have tapas and more wine! Visiting the most picturesque places in Avila with a glass of wine in hand, has been truly special. The Winebus team  knew how to combine the tour with the city celebrations and city tour. The right-handed photo below was taken at the light show.
