About Us

Editor (General & Expats in Madrid): Sarah
I am a South African living in Madrid since 2005. I love this city, its people, its streets and its buzz. Therefore more than a year ago, I created this blog to to inform friends and visitors of the city about what it has to offer. The result is Cheap In Madrid, a blog whose 95% content is for free events and activities from free music concerts, free art expositions, free workshops, free theatre, free museum visits, places to learn Spanish or other languages free of charge, cheap places to enjoy tapas and other typical Spanish dishes.

Contributer (Life in Madrid & Cinema): Sheila

Sheila is an American who has been in Madrid long enough to consider herself a permanent Madrileña. She is verified translator and English teacher and also has interest in voice recording and dubbing. Her articles in this blog range from tips and advice to making a move to Madrid and settling in as well as the Friday cinema guide of the latest English movies on show. More details about her translation, voiceover and editing work can be found here.

Contributer (Concerts, Blog Layout & Food Writer): Carmen

Carmen is a Spanish born, American raised southern Californian girl who has been living in Spain the past 5 years. She enjoys teaching English and is a keen traveller,  photographer with a passion for Spanish gastronomy. Among her friends she is the PR for fun and free activities in Madrid, hence her resonance with this blog. She is also a member of the Madrid´s Chapter of the Expat Group, InterNations. She is passionate about the city and being completely bilingual her posts shares a part of Madrid not usually found on tourist routes. She is also a layout consultant for the blog, and we will be seeing the fruits of her input soon.

Contributer (Coffee Shops): Caroline

Caroline is another 20 something writer on our team. She is in Madrid as an English language assistant in a primary school in a small town outside of Madrid called Algete. She grew up in Boulder, Colorado and spent time studying and traveling in South America. She enjoys cafe culture, live music and dance, opportunities for cultural exchange, and
food!

Contributer (Lifestyle): Laura

Laura moved to Spain to see the world from a different perspective. She teaches English in a public high school as part of the Language and Culture Assistants of Spain program. When she isn´t teaching, she spends her time labouring over her long-form writing (working on her second novel currently), visiting any and all art exhibits that she can find, and drinking entirely too much coffee. The best part of travelling, to her, is discovering unnoticed treasures and getting to write about the experiences that they give her, and if she can find them for free or cheap, that makes them even better.

Contributer (Sports & Outdoors): David

David is an American student from New Jersey and English teacher who came to Madrid to brush up on his Spanish. One of his passions is football and shares the curious coincidence of being born the same year and city as the Villareal football club star striker Giuseppe Rossi. David writes about the sports culture in Madrid, including football matches and basketball matches as well as summer hangouts like the Madrid Rio.

When he is not tweaking the blog, he likes to attend many of the blog´s free activities,or attend Atletico de Madrid football matches or Estudiantes Basketball team matches.
