5 Reasons to Join Madrid Menu Del Día Martes Madness

MMDDMM Cheap in MadridMMDDMM was started by 2 guiris, Marc Kildea (a barmen at Triskel Tavern) and Dave Shields (an English teacher), as a great way to meet new people and explore new restaurants around Madrid—on a budget. While MMDDMM is a perfect chance to experience Spanish gastronomy, explore new areas of Madrid, practice different languages and meet people from all over the world, what it’s really about is having fun at lunchtime (and maybe the odd after-lunch liqueur at a nearby bar afterwards). Here’s 5 great reasons to join them:

  1. Try new restaurants. Every Tuesday, MMDDMM picks a new restaurant and a different barrio or neighborhood to visit, which they announce on their Facebook page.
  2. Anti-crisis prices. The menu del día (3 course meal with all wine, water, bread and butter included) for roughly €10—great recession-proof pricing.
  3. Meet new people, guiris and Madrileños alike while dabbling in other languages. Although English and Spanish are the primary languages, French, German, Italian and the odd bit of Gaelic can often be heard at their loco luncheons.
  4. Read restaurant reviews. After every Tuesday lunch, the MMDDMM crew writes a review, so even if you miss a Tuesday, you’ll get the lowdown on the restaurant. They go around asking everyone who came that afternoon to rate the restaurant not only on the quality of the menu del día food but also on the service and general presentation.
  5. Meet Robby reindeer, mascot and swear jar. Every time you swear at the meal, you have to give him a euro and all proceeds go to charity.
