Free Entry for the 196th Anniversary of the Prado Museum

Every year on November 19th, the Museo National del Prado takes a further step towards its bicentennial by celebrating its Anniversary with free entrance to everyone all day. Throughout the day of its 196th anniversary, from ten in the morning until eight in the evening, you can enjoy free of charge the permanent and temporary collection.

Current Exhibits

  • The Divine Morales is a collection of sacred paintings by Luis de Morales aptly named the Divine, because of his lifelike sacred images.

  • Transparent Art. Rock Crystal Carving in Renaissance Milan is an unique opportunity to see beautifully carved hyaline quartz or rock crystal, a technique for which Milan was particularly celebrated in the second half of the 16th century. In their own time these unique works were considered to represent a courtly, sophisticated art form: a “transparent art” of astonishing beauty.

  • Effigies amicorum. Portraits of Artists by Federico de Madrazo is a collection of large oil paintings by Federico de Madrazo, a Spanish painter who produced the largest number of portraits of artists.

  • The Penitent St Peter of Los Venerables is an important painting by the Spanish baroque painter Bartolomé Esteban Murillo that was once found in the Church of the Hospital de los Venerables in the 17th Century by the Sevillan Priest Justin Neve.
