Restaurant Review #2: Carmencita Bar
Posted in Cheap* by CarmenRestaurant Review #2: Carmencita Bar
First opened in December 2010, Carmencita Bar is the “neighborhood-feel bar” that Tuscan native Marianne decided to open up in Malasaña with her chef boyfriend Yoel from León, where they met years ago.
The name Carmencita is derived from the annual summer music festival created by their friends in their León village, Villarejo de Órbigo. However, don’t let the name and origins fool you, this isn’t any oridinarly Spanish bar mind you. With its vintage appeal and esquisite burgers and brunch, it makes any American feel right at home.
Most all ingredients come from Leon, in support of their heritage with the exception of local Madrid items too. Cooked to order by Yoel in the small kitchen, my Tuscan Burger with goat cheese & avocado, stacked high on a sesame bun and side salad, was anything but ordinary. Will be back to try the other burgs! Their weekend brunch is served on Saturdays & Sundays from 12-5pm. You can find on the menu the classic Huevos Rancheros, French Toast & Eggs Benedict, not to mention 1€ mimosas! Be sure to arrive early or book a table in advance if coming with a group.
They host a language exchange on Tuesday nights with 1€ Mango Bellini’s as the event drink special. They’ve a glamorous menu of flavored teas like the Piña Colada Green and Gin Tonics with names like Hendrix made with roses, cucumber & fever tree.
Carmencita Bar. A new favorite. I like to think of it as mine. 😉
