Two Tapas Festivals Flavor Early-June.

Madrid’s southern neighbor Getafe holds its third annual Ruta de la Tapa (Tapas Route) on Friday the 3rd, Saturday the 4th and Sunday the 5th of June. Getafe Centro, the city’s lively heart, transforms into a giant dining competition as restaurants create fancy, delicious dishes, pull out the stops to woo customers and encourage visiters to vote for them in the evening’s best restaurant award ceremony. There is also a raffle and prizes for the ‘judges.’

At each of the many participating sites, a tapa and botellin (33 cl beer) combination costs 2 Euros.

Getafe Centro is located on Metro Line 12 but can best be reached by Cercanias Renfe Line C-4 from Sol or Atocha.

The second weekend of June, Thursday the 9th to Sunday the 12th, the Palacio de Deportes hosts Madrid’s free Feria de la Tapa. Chefs from 38 of the city’s restaurants will prepare three tapas each. Each delicacy will cost 1.20 Euros.

The Palacio de Deportes is located near the Goya (Lines 2 and 4) and O’Donnell (Line 6) Metro stations. The Festival is open from 12.00h to 16.00h and 20.00h to 24.00h each day.
