The duet “WE” are creating a fresh, innovative style on the Spanish and Latin music scene. Madridleño JCsanchez and Zaragoza girl Anna both come from musically creative families, inspiring them to become singers, musicians and composers. They earned their chops performing on various programs for the TV channel Antena 3. From there, “WE” emerged, in large part thanks to Miami-based producer Rodolfo Castillo, who has also worked with artists such as Julio Iglesias, Paulina Rubio, Ricky Martin and Chayanne.
Living in Miami for four years, they released their hit single “Por Ti”, which was on “America’s Hit Parade.” Now, they’re back in Madrid and hard at work on their soon-to-be-released studio album.
Q: Hi guys. I’m pretty new to this interviewing thing. Let me start by asking what is one of the most interesting interviews you’ve ever done?
WE: We had fun on Javier Romero’s show “Sábado Gigante” in Miami.
Q: What are 3 things you miss about Miami?
WE: The climate, IHOP’s delicious pancakes, and another place we love to eat called “Panera Bread”.
Q: What brings you back to Madrid?
WE: We’ve begun to record our new album supervised by our manager, actor and TV host Carlos Sobera.
Q: What is the name of your new album, and the first single?
WE: We don’t have a name for the album yet, but the first single will be “Más Que Amigos.”
Q: Have you written a song about Madrid?
WE: So far, not yet. But who knows? Maybe in the future we’ll be inspired by this marvelous city.
Q: Who are your favorite Spanish musicians?
Anna: Julio Iglesias
JC: Duncan Dhu
Q: Do you have a favorite song about Madrid?
Anna: Well, I’ve always liked Joaquin Sabina, especially for his lyrics, so “Pongamos que hablo de Madrid” would be my favorite.
JC: I particularly like the song “Mañana” by Mikel Erentxun (Duncan Dhu). They’ve always been a band that influences me when I compose.
Q: What are your favorite places to listen to live music in Madrid?
WE: Two of the most famous venues in Madrid, which we think are the best, are “Galileo Galileo” and “Clamores.”
Q: Where are your favorite hangouts in Madrid?
WE: “La Cava Baja” in La Latina is a great place to have tapas. “Moma” is a fantastic place to dance.
Q: What do you think are the most interesting films about Madrid?
Anna: For me, it’s the 1991 film “High Heels,” by internationally renowned director Pedro Almodovar.
JC: One of the movies I liked the most was “Open Your Eyes,” directed by Alejandro Amenabar, who’s also internationally renowned, and starring Penelope Cruz.
Well, thanks for taking the time to speak to us, and good luck with your upcoming album!
