Thursday, September 27. – European Day of Languages is an innovative cultural and linguistic marathon will offer over 40 different free activities. This is expected to arouse interest in studying languages, cultures approach other lesser known, choose new destinations for future trips, discover new artists and gastronomy of other regions.

Foreign cultural institutes and European embassies in Madrid will offer movies, music, drama, dramatic readings, poetry readings, book-crossing, exhibitions, tours, gastronomy and, especially, language classes, scholarships to study foreign languages and awards.

Some of the activities are:

Alliance Francaiçe (Cuesta de Santo Domingo, 13. Metro: Santo Domingo/Callao) - 20:30 Drawing of several scholarships for French courses for participants (19:00 & 20:00) – 21:00 Tasting of French delicacies.

Goethe Institut (Calle de Zurbarán, 21. Metro: Alonso Martinez) – 18:00 to 21:00 Language lessons 20 minutes: German, Finnish, Lithuanian, Hungarian, Dutch, Romanian. Classes begin every hour and every half hour, in the language department, 2nd floor. – 20:30 Silent film with live electronic music. Fritz Lang’s Metropolis / Germany, 1927, restored version 2010/148 min.

Institut Français (Calle de Marqués de la Ensenada, 12. Metro: Colón) – 18:00 to 19:00 Workshops. Phonetics Workshop, for children 6 to 12 years, and presentation of linguistic stays in France, Switzerland, Belgium and Canada. – 21:30 win a scholarship to a French course.

Instituto Cervantes (Calle de Alcalá, 49. Metro: Banco de España) – 20:00 to 21:00 Austrian-Spanish trio formed by Birgit Kolar (violin), Albert Mora (flute) and Cristina Pozas (viola), who will perform works by Beethoven and Mozart.

Instituto Cultural Rumano (Calle de Marqués de Urquijo, 47, 1º Right. Metro: Argüelles)  - 18:00 to 23:00 Exhibition: History of Romanian comics.

Instituto Iberoamericano de Finlandia (Calle de Caracas, 23. Metro: Alonso Martinez)  - 20:30 to 20:50 / 21:50 to 22:10 Spanish Finnish Theatre. – 21:00 to 21:20 Romanian Poetry reading.

Instituto Italiano de Cultura, Palacio de Abrantes (Calle Mayor, 86. Metro: Opera) – 20:00 Film. Civiltà per Scontro di Piazza Vittorio one ascensore of Isotta Toso, Italia/2010/90 min. VOSE. Tickets will be distributed starting at 19:00. Max. 2 tickets per person.

Instituto Polaco de Cultura (Calle Felipe IV, 12. Metro: Banco de España) – 19:15 to 21:00 Cinema Portuguese, Polish and Czech animation. V.O.S. in Spanish or English. – 21:20 to 23:00 Film Polish, Czech, Swiss and Portuguese animation. V.O.S. in Spanish or English.

Headquarters of the European Institutions in Spain (Paseo de la Castellana, 46. Metro: Rubén Darío) – 19:00 to 19:45 Dramatic reading of fragments from Tale of Two Cities and Hard Times.
