Platform Zero

In between the Iglesia and Bilbao metro stops on the light-blue line 1 metro, there is an abandoned station that was once the Chamberí metro station. Now, you cannot get off the metro train there, but if you walk to the station you can enter ¨Platform Zero¨or Anden 0, an interpretative center about the history of the Metro. If you are interested in public transportation, this area has information about the metro´s design and important historical events, like how some metro stations became refugee areas during the Civil War.

You can explore this station and feel like you are part of an older time, back when Chamberí was an important stop on the first line of the metro ever. Access is free and the station is open from 11 to 19h on Tuesday through Friday and from 11 to 15h on Saturday and Sunday. The entrance is located at Plaza de Chamberí and can be reached by buses 3, 40, and 147. A second Metro museum is located at Nave de Motores on Calle de Valderribas, 49, which includes more of the history of the trains used and the technology of metro systems.
