Sometimes we tend to think to do an act of solidarity is far from our reach, because we have no money or time to devote to those who need it most. Nothing is further from the truth. In fact, we are just a Metro stop away to saving many lives.

For the second year running, Cruz Roja, Metro de Madrid and Casbega, the Coca-Cola bottler, are renewing the campaign “You’re a metro away from saving many lives.” This project, which will last throughout the whole of November, is focused on attaining the largest number of blood donations possible by enabling the public to participate in this initiative at the following stations.

• 12 to 16 November in Ciudad Universitaria (line 6)
• 19 to 23 November in Puerta del Sur (line 5)
• 26 to 30 November in Embajadores (line 3)

“The positive results of the previous year’s campaign have proved a stimulus for continuing with this project. The campaign undertaken in 2011 resulted in a total number of 3135 extractions, 66% of which were donations by people doing it for the first time”, the Metro chief executive stated. These new donors went on to form part of the Cruz Roja data base. The Metro station with most donations was Ciudad Universitaria, which is why university students have been pinpointed as the prime target public this year.

Anyone who is over the age of 18, weighs more than 50 kilos, and is in a good state of health may be a donor. In addition, it is possible to donate 3-4 times a year and it is only necessary to wait two months between one donation and another.

Again, all the people who come to donate will receive in return a check redeemable for a movie ticket. Solidarity always has to be rewarded!
